Just started me 74 Islander MK II after sitting for 2years. Engine started with no problems. However, the warning buzzer sounded. After annoying buzz of 5 minutes, noticed no oil pressure and shut down engine. I pulled the lid to the oil filter and was dry as a bone. Any ideas on why? Suggestions? |

I guess this could be the problem, but this is a relief valve from to much pressure. Maybe it is stuck open, I just do not know if it would result in zero oil pressure. any more thoughts? |

Oil pressure relief valve cap is 15/16" hex head located on port side of crankcase just above the oil pan and beneath the alternator toward the aft end of engine. Suggest using 15/16" 6 point wrench so as to minimize any damage to hex head if removing. |

Take the lid off the oil filter and fill the filter with oil and as quick as possible try it again. The pump may have simply lost its prime from sitting. The pump is on the back of the engine and NOT in the oil pan immersed in oil Easy and worth a try. Hope this helps Ernie |

Hello Gregory, Lots of ideas sent your way today, but I have a couple more for your. 1. The oil pump is on the front of the engine in the Palmer 60 Marine, right behind the flywheel. It is a gear pump and is not likely to have failed. But it can loose prime as mentioned by Ernie. 2. There should be a plug on the right front of the engine below the manifold and on the outside of the main front casting plate. It is a hex plug for an Alan wrench. I suggest you try priming the pump by putting some 30 weight oil in this hole, letting it dribble down the the pump, and see if your pump works again. Regards and good luck, David |

Eddie, Finally was able to get back to the problem. I pulled 1 in hex head, removed spring and was able to get the valve out by using a 3/8 extension. The valve had a little rust on it. Cleaned the bore and valve. Shot WD-40 into the hole. Buttoned everything back up, fired engine and great oil pressure. THANKS for the assistance. |

How did you get the valve out with the extension? I got my spring out but could not get valve out. |

Bruce, After I removed the spring, I shot WD-40 into hole and let it sit overnight. I then took a 3/8 drive socket extension, put the end where you would normally put a socket into the hole and took a hammer and tapped the extension a few times. I then pulled out the extension and the valve was on the end. good luck |
