I am the new owner of a 1949 Monk Cruiser (similar to Chris Craft) and have a couple questions about the single, 6 cyl. "Chrysler Marine Engine" (from exhaust manifold), with dual carbs. Can anyone help me chase down the answers? 1. (Engine mdl.?): The original colour is green (painted over in blue) and the engine plate states: MBNo. E-13451-M Ser. No. 12650 IFC (don't know what this means?) I am thinking it is a "Crown M-47", but not sure -- can anyone verify or correct me? And: 2. (Exhaust manifold): Does anyone know where I can get a replacement? It is cracked on the exterior, and I suspect the interior. Thanks folks, Brian Vancouver, BC It has |

I'd guess a M47S 125hp. See the chart at http://www.finewoodboats.com/CHRYSLER1.htm |

chrysler ace oil pressure of 150 psi, perhaps higher. When starting the motor the oil pressure increases incrementally , until it reaches approximately 150 psi. It is supposed to be 40 psi. The rate of increments appears to be in lock step with engine speed. After ten minutes the oil becomes smelly and oil color changes. The color change is not to like water in the oil. Tried different gages. Oil pressure bypass works and has the correct spring color. Entire oil system was checked for restrictions; pump, pressure relief etc. Need help on this one............. -j}} |

Greetings, The oil bypass is not working correctly or it would be dumping the pressure back into the pan. The other possibility is a plugged oil cooler but not likely. The oil smell and change is due to the pump beating the and heating the oil into submission due to the high pressure. If the you have 150 PSI of oil pressure going into or through your oil cooler, it will most likely destroy it thus purging the oil into the cooling system. Good luck and keep us posted. Lew |
