I have just purchased a Palmer YT1
serial- 2118825
magneto- American Bosch- FB-1 ED2 V2 1C
fly wheel- 10 3/4 x 3
Schebler carburator- Model B
Drive- Appears that the drive was driving a belt below the engine. There is no holed flange that might connect to a drive shaft for the propeller.
It appears to be in wonderful shape. Turns over freely with compression. No leaks when you blow into the water jacket and plug the other hole. Blows freely otherwise. No cracks evident anywhere.
I have the Palmer Hand Book and the YT-1 manual.
Questions:
1. I have never worked on a one lung before. Is there a member of the Old Marine Engine group that lives in the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area who might be able to help assure that I do things correctly and in proper order?
2. Where do I get information about the Model B carburator? Everything I have read so far is about the D model.
3. The engine has been painted at least once since purchased. Currently it is an orange top and fly wheel and gray body. I think I may be able to get down to the original color when I am restoring.... if I can I will share with the group.
4. Of course I will have a hundred questions before I am near done..... but one thing that would really help is where I should purchase the gaskets and other things that must be done with all restorations.

Doug,
For a start use the search button at the top and search for YT 1 then in the box below select "and" match all key words. There will be lots of good reading here and many of your questions will be answered. Feel free to ask addional questions that you may come up with.
I assume this pic is your engine. If this is the case you will need to correct some of the water plumbing as well as the water pump drive parts are incorrect. I am sure one of us on here can assist you with getting the correct parts. There are many pics of YT1s so you can see the correct water piping.

Thank you for your response. You do have the correct engine.
I think it will be a bit of time before I am connecting water plumbing... but I sure look forward to that time and will make cedrtain that I do that correctly. When you say the "water pump drive parts" are you referring to the drive wheel or the entire assembly? IE: was this pump borrowed from somewhere else and I need to find an authentic pump and drive- or is it just some parts of the pump or drive wheel? (Thanks for the heads up on both items.)
I think I have already read the mails that reference YT1 but I will reread over and again as I get more familiar with what I am actually reading about.
I didn't see any references to a Model B carburator so I still need help with that as well as what gaskets I will need. They appear to be "paper" gaskets now.

Doug,
The Model B carb was used on a very few YT1 engines and I have had very little success with them. Most YT engines had a Meyer carb or a Schlebler Model D.
For gaskets contact Dick Day he has many posts here and you can e-mail him by clicking his name in the left column. Dick may also have the water pump parts that you will need.
Here is a pic of the pump and its drive parts.
The pic also shows how the piping should run from the pump to the cylinder.
