DRR: Many thxx for ref. Rutenber was a real engine pioneer; he deserves to be better remembered. I thought I'd found Rutenber posts here a couple years ago, but nothing comes up now. The Avery Farm and City Tractor/Truck 1910-13 (now extremely rare) per an Avery catalog had a 4cyl (cast separately) inline 43/4x5 engine, with force feed and splash lubrication, centrifugal gear driven water pump, Rayfield carb, dual ign (4 dry cells, Eisemann coil and dual Eisemann automatic mags) 5 interchangeable mains, governed at 1200, reportedly a Rutenber... The question is if that engine was a Rutenber "production" engine, or, as some reports say, a special engine for Avery 1910-13 or so. The specs given, esp the ign, sound like it could be one of their marine engines, but I'm not finding any Rutenber specs to match. I should be getting pix and any cast/stamped number/letters from a complete Farm Truck in the 1owa1080 truck museum. |
