Every once in a while, we see Sterling GR and GRS (also known as the Dolphin) listings of engines for sale here. They are almost always stationary or commercial and not marine. The cylinders and internal hardware are pretty much the same as marine. About 10 years ago, there was a guy working for Phillips Pipe Line company in the mid west. I think his name was Keith Blumert, but not sure. He claimed that his company bought out Sterling just before they went out of business and had a lot of Dolphin and Petrel parts as they used these commercial engines in the oil fields for power. If you search back under Sterling threads, you will come up with the discussion. I tried for a while to get in touch with this guy and the company but was unsuccessful. It may be worth trying again. If you do wish to follow up on this, let me know as I will dig through my notes and emails from back then too. Cheers, Lew "The West Coast Sterling Guy" |
