I have a 1940 Vintage Waukesha ICK small (4) cyl gas engine (20HP).. This engine is 100% brand new..never run, It is 90% assembled with all the parts to complete.. I have pics if you are interested..I also have lots of spare parts for the same engine,, pistions rings carbs ignitions starters , head gaskets,ect.. I worked for Waukesha in the 60's but picked this up at that time fom an older gentelman that had worked ther for 30 years.. Everything is rust free, always stored in a heated structure..I am hoping to find a collector.. It is located in Northern Illinois. I don't want to see it just scrapped..I am trying to empty a family home and need to find a new home for this ..Let me know if anybody would like to see pics..This was used in small boats once upon a time...Many uses back then though.. I also have original documets, spec sheets, parts maunauls, engine prints......Its the whole story... |

Theory of small worlds . . . I too worked at Waukesha Motors in the 60s. I remember that ICKs were then used as starting engines for Waukesha V12 engines going to oilfield applications.

William: You'll have no trouble disposing of your ICK inventory...while I'm not too sure about their being used as starter engines on any Wauk V12's (too modern for my info) they WERE used as starter engines on many meduim sized Wauk inline 6s (larger Wauk inline 6s had the FC as a starter engine)...
In addition, ICK's were used in innumerable industrial and commercial vehicles/applications, and I believe the WWII aircraft auxiliary power unite (AAPUs) were variations. Parts information, etc literature is regularly in demand; give some thought to copying some of your info to you could provide help to more than one owner/collector.

The ICK block was used by both Red Wing and Arnolt to build marine engines. I have two Red Wings, one in my wooden boat Xanadu. |

I just purchased a marine ick 55 Waukesha. I'll be installing it in a small launch I built. Looks as if it's in good shape. I hope to start it up soon. Any thoughts on where to find a transmission for it? I'm looking for a manual too.

I think he is asking $20 for the manual but it has been a while since I purchased mine.
The transmision housing is a Red Wing casting with a Westerbeke L25 transmission inside.
Do you have some picutures of your boat?

If you're interested, the Wauk Eng Hist Soc may be able, with your serial #, to give you info re' production date etc.
They also have manuals but no parts.
The "55" is the works code for the specific accessories on your engine when it left the factory--carb, ign, cooling, etc---might be interesting to see if there've been any changes over the years. Good luck. |

I am replying to Williams original message. I am in need of a starter for a ICK engine, and am having a hard time finding one. Its out of an old Budda forklift with an ICK engine, 6 volt , 2 bolt flange to mount starter. If anyone has any info on where to get one that would be great. thanks! |

Hello ctbug - I have two Red Wing Meteor engines which use the Waukesha ICK block. They both have a Delco 1109607 starter. That starter was used on some 1950's era Chevrolet cars and some International tractors from the same era. Using that Delco number you may be able to find some auto junk yards that have a starter. Also, there is a web site for the Arnoldt marine engine and that is an ICK block so there may be some leads as to where to find a starter there.
