Rex, I think you will find that the 4 cylinder Doman I posted photos of is the engine you are talking about. Some how you missed a cylinder. Owned by a gentleman in linwood, Michigan. |

I'm a member of the Launch Division of the Classic Yacht Association of NZ here in Auckland. We are restoring a 1907 32ft launch Maroro which originally had a 15hp Doman (probably a twin). Is there any chance of finding one in the US? Help would be most appreciated. |

The original owner's grandson has checked Maroro's log of the 1908 Rudder Cup offshore race run by the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron which Maroro won. Her Doman was a 3 cylinder, so that's what we're looking for.Cheers. |

Thanks very much. I've emailed the owner. How strange that one was on the market at the time I posted. The agent for H.C. Doman in Auckland was an excellent firm of boatbuilders, Collings & Bell who later specialized in planing hulls for racing and for express cruisers as well as whale-chasers. They built one launch for Zane Grey which they sailed to Tahiti for him plus another for "Carrie Fin" the famous American fishing writer. By then their main agency was Redwing. The whalechasers tended to have aero engines, mainly Curtiss. I would like a 150hp Sterling for my own launch, Romance II, built in 1919. |
