Hello, I found a Kermath Sea Pup post war with bolted on head, I need info on this puppy, Mag point gap, spark plug gap, anyone have manuel or operation instructions, or no where I could find one.

Dana - do you have any idea of the age of the engine? I have a 1937 full line catalog and specifications item in my collection. I don't know if it goes into detail like plug gap but will look and see. It will probably have displacement, piston size etc. You are welcome to a copy at my cost + some postage. |

Looking to see if anybody know where to find Condensor for this engine, the one in it reads ( IC 4P 13 13 MFD 400 VDC-JG C-D ) or what would be a good replacement. |

Dana,
Would you mind sharing what you had to pay for your Sea Pup?
My neighbor has had one sitting in his garage for many years and has asked me to do some research on it as he is not handy with computers.
It has a rope-pull start and an Oberdorfer water pump mounted where a starter usually goes.
The original Edison magneto must not be working because a former owner installed a standard automotive ignition coil... but there's nothing mounted on the motor to trigger (or time) the coil. Has anyone ever seen a coil-ignition arrangement on a Sea Pup before? If so, he'd like to see what was done to act as points to time the coil.
Another post I read on this site implied that Edison magnetos were notorious... but could it be rebuilt? (and perhaps made more reliable?).
I couldn't find a name-plate, but there's a number cast into the starboard side of the block: B-17521. The gearbox casting is number B-17426.
Can anyone identify what year or model# this motor is from these casting numbers? We couldn't find any other identification plates or serial numbers

Ernie will be posting the pictures of my neighbor's Kermath 1-cylinder motor shortly. After seeing them, I'd appreciate any info that this forum could provide as to the age of this motor and any other details like, Is it an Atomic-1 or a Sea-Pup, etc.
BTW it rolls over nicely and the gearbox is smooth, but we haven't attempted to start it as we'll have to work out a means to fire the coil and time that to the engine (or else get the original magneto working.) |

It looks like the ignition coil is wired into the mag. Most likely it is using the points and condensor in there. Just hook a battery to the coil and turn it over. If the points are clean you should have spark.
The water pump is a replacement as the one that is on the engine between the tlywheel and front cover most likely died. Most of them did as they wern't very good.

Kermath Sea Pup
Engine overheated and broke piston rod into three pieces. I would like to restore the pup as it bolts right into my sailboat. Can anyone help me with info regarding rebuild & piston rod parts.
