Hi Can you help with infomation. I have a P5 fitted in my Clinker launch, The throttle cable was seized, having replaced it it seems the engine runs very fast when put into gear. How do I go about adjusting the control rod and cable set up that link the forward/reverse/clutch lever with the carburettor. My owners book gives no clues. |

The return spring on the carb control should attempt to open fully the throttle, it can then be slowed by either the fwd/rev in neutral or the throttle control in slow. The fwd/rev lever should slow to tick over when in neutral. When a gear is engaged it should open to the throttle setting. I would remove the fwd/rev link at ensure that a full wotking range is available at the throttle. After this is ok, re-connect the link and ensure that the throttle slows right down in the neutral and extends to the speed depicted by the throttle lever when a gear is engaged. T. |

Thank you George. It now starts to make sense. The controls now work as you describe, the throttle cable control works in the reverse to whet I had expected. Just two more questions. Do I remove the f/r conection by undoing the nut at the carb end/ AND where is the slow running screw adjustment on the carb? Apologies for ignorance |

I'm guessing that you have the later Amal carb, and I haven't seen a complete set-up with one on. If its like this one the slow running setting is as shown - it just jams the slide out further. Regarding the mixture adjustment, I guess its on the needle setting - not got the top bit here! As fir the neutral slow running, I guess providing it slows to a tick-over it should be ok. Sorry I cant be any more specific. G. |

Thanks for your help. I think mine is a s turner carb. It has a horizontal tube construction with the plunger sliding in & out from side to side. Have been to the boat now and all seems well. Tickover is good and the throttle cable control adjusts speed OK when in gear. Realy pleased now that it is running so well. many thanks |
