I am about to scrap a 22HP Palmer P60(M60?)which was installed in a Douglas31 which was built in 1970. Unfortunately the boat was submerged dockside for about 18 hours this past May (in freshwater) but was "pickled" soon after it was lifted from the water. The cooling water intake hose had burst. Are there any parts from this engine that anyone might want? Shipping for any item would have to be paid. (Alternator is not available) Note that I had rebuilt the cooling water pump before last sailing season which included getting a new pump shaft made at a machine shop. We are presently replacing this motor with a Beta 16HP diesel. |

Yes, there are several parts that are peculiar to the Palmer P-60 and only obtainable from a scrapped engine. Most valuable is the exhaust manifold. Other parts unique to that engine are the water pump, distributor, crankshaft, flywheel and the water hose fitting atop the cylinder head. These parts are the ones that differ from the International Harvester tractor engine and can only be repaired, rebuilt or obtained from another scrapped P-60. |

Eddie, For years I understood the crankshaft for the P-60 was not the standard IHC CUB-LO-BOY C-60 engine. I finally found out it is the same crankshaft only the adapter bushing for the OXKB is pressed on the end of the standard crankshaft. One part I have had calls for is the wider marine flywheel from the IHC tractor flywheel which was used in the earliest years of production. The wider marine flywheel ring gear can get messed up and it is easier to just replace the whole flywheel than shrink on a replacement ring gear. Another item is the flywheel mounted pulley adapter for driving the sea water pump for the heat exchanger. A good heat exchanger is also a looked for item. The Thermostat housing is another item which occasionally is looked for. Complete gasket sets for the engine and its adapters to the reverse gear housing etc. are available from Gaskets To Go. I had one call for a cast iron crankcase but the caller never called back so guess he found a local one. |

Richard, I forgot about the thermostat housing. I understand that you can get them from Moyer Marine. It would be worth hanging on to if you are scrapping out an engine. Ten years ago the housing was going for $110. |

Hi All, I was going to buy Jims manifold but finaly went for the new diesel. So Jims manifold is still up for grabs and I have complete 1974 P60 that runs perfect with new alt. carb, reg, waterpump and thermostat. buy it all or parts. You can still here and see it run in the boat. The manifold rotted out in such a way that it just bypassed the thermostat. It still runs good it just never warms upand way to much water comes out the exaust. |

Darn. Did Tim get the exhaust manifold? My engine runs good, has a brand new head, but I still am picking up water into the oil. My yacht mechanic can't seem to explain it to me, but I think he's saying he's pretty sure he found a manufacturer who can get us whatever part is the problem. Would an exaust manifold be the likely culprit? If this one is gone, where could I find another, or have one made? Does anyone have a good cheat sheet/manual for installation of a new diesel? I'm getting pretty desperate to repower my Islander 30 MKII. This water in the oil is getting me down, but it seems like the local yacht companies in New Orleans want $10,000 to repower the boat, and it just dosen't seem worth it. An outboard tacked on to the back would be so tacky. |

Since Tim has elected to replace his P60 with a diesel, the exhaust manifold is still available as is the water pump. The rest of the engine has now been scrapped. |

I'll take it. Please call 504-822-2263 and ask for David. Is it in good condition? How much do you want for it? |
