Hello everyone. I am writing today to see if anyone can direct me to a source for small diameter brass or bronze propeller shaft. I am in need of a replacement for my inboard canoe. The diameter is 5/8 inch. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Hi - Think about which alloy brass. 60/40 Brass (Muntz metal) is going to dezincify in salt water. 70/30 (Cartridge Brass)is better. If a salt water boat, I'd go for 316 Stainless. Might be cheaper as well.

Thank you very much! Ernie, I have the Palmer by the doorway now, and I can bring it any time that is convenient for you. Also, you should see the Lathrop 3 HP that Ray just found! 1920 ish and crusty, but very savable! Nice size engine. Bruce, I have the engine for the canoe all fitted up, and have removed it to work on the shaft log/ skeg. As soon as I right the canoe, I will share some pics of the whole unit. Thanks for your interest!
