A YT-2 owner, Marion from Tennessee, contacted me a while back about an oil pump for his YT-2 Palmer. I told him I would get to it over the winter, that was last winter. I finally got mine off and decided to make a pattern rather than send mine to the foundry for duplication. The pattern went together fast, needs a little detailing, a core box and a follow board. Dick Day gave me his email address, he may see this post. |

* JB The pattern looks great ! The YT-1 engines used a drip oiler on the front bearing. Did the oil pump on the YT-2 just supply oil to the front bearing through the sight glass ? * |

Thanks Richard. I guess the rear cam was there with nothing on it so they decided to put the oil pump. It looks like it just oils the front bearing, maybe the camshaft gears. Seems like they would have included the rear bearing. |

Palmer and most of the similar designed marine engines do not need an oil pump if the engine was mounted perfectly level. The primary reason for the pump was to move the oil from the aft or low part of the oil sump to the forward end so it would run back through the troughs in the pan that the connecting rod dippers splashed oil around from. However this being said Palmer did use the pump to lubricate the front main. As an example of this a few years back at Calvert one of Dick Days Palmers stopped pumping oil. We then noticed that it was down on the forward end. The oil had accumulated there away from the pump pickup. We corrected the problem by putting wood blocks under the front of the engine and all was well. The Sterling Kid a little 10 hp 4 cylinder had an oil pump the moved oil from the aft end of the engine to the forward end. The stationary version of this engine has no oil pump. Hope this helps Ernie |

If anyone needs the exhaust water cooled elbow for a Palmer YT-2 let me know. I'm about to finish the pattern and core boxes and will probably take the pattern over to a foundry toward the end of next week. Cheers Dick |
