Underneath the water pump, I found this screen, covering a port down into the crankcase, then one going up, maybe into the exhaust system.
Is this the crankcase breather?  |

That's a backfire preventor in the transfer port, puts the flame out before it gets to the crankcase. |

Interesting... Thanks! I'll have to ponder that tomorrow when I'm out in the garage and can look at the porting! |
