Several of my engines are missing tags (unfortunately, that is a common occurrence with engines found locally). The missing tag on one engine would have been sheet brass embossed in a press, on another it would have been sheet brass with acid etched lettering, and on a third the tag may have been cast brass or heavy, embossed, sheet brass. I sure would appreciate references to tried and true sources for reproduction tags. |

HI I USE PMA PHOTOMETALS PHONE# IS 602-278-7800 I TRY TO SEND A GOOD TAG TO THEM BUT IN THE PAST I SENT A COPY ON PAPER WITH HOW TALL WIDE LONG AND THE HOLE CENTERS . I ALWAYS TALK TO RAY NEVER HAD ANY TROUBLE WITH THEM THEY ARE IN PHOENIX AZ. |

Palmer YT-2
Palmer Model D
Knox Model G (E tag is the same if the
Sn is higher than 4500)
Lockwood Ash/Motorgo 2 cyl cast enbloc

I can get Jamie to copy the YT-2, he probably has the L-A tag already. |

Although the YT-2 tag is missing, I do know the serial number of the engine. Getting a tag upon which I could stamp all the pertinent information, including the correct serial number, would make me a pretty happy camper.
A previous owner of the YT-2 wanted to resurrect the engine. In September 1952, he wrote a letter to Palmer and included a list of parts he needed. He also included the Sn of the YT-2 in that letter. The tag was removed from the engine sometime after 1953.
George Coates has the heads and cylinders from the YT-2. Unfortunately, the engine was used in salt water and suffered accordingly. George thought the forward head was salvageable but had some reservations about being able to save the aft head. Now, why couldn't it have been just the reverse? The forward head is the same as the YT-1 head and there are a few YT-1 heads available. There are no YT-2 aft heads available. However, after seeing the miracles George pulled off with that poor old Barker, I have every confidence he will figure out some way to salvage that aft head.
After the tag and aft head problems are solved, the final challenge with the YT-2 will be to find or make the two 90 degree exhaust elbows.

Thanks for that address. I looked PMA up on the internet. I will send them a photo of one of the tags I need and ask for an approximate cost. That particular tag is a fairly large one (3" by 4")and has both lettering and scroll work. It will probably be a good gauge to use in judging the cost of some of the other tags I need. |
