I am assisting a Friend who has a Volvo MD1B engine on his Boat and we are having problems starting. The Engine was serviced a few years ago, but the Engine has not been use much since then and not under load. I discovered the "Control Lever" (throttle) on the Engine look's suspect as that may not be connected to the Governor as it has no positive movment, but has some when the "Cold Start" is pressed. My question is there any adjustment is made on the "Control Lever" as there is a nut on the shaft and a clamp nut on the Lever and belive there is some adjustment?, The owner told me he has tried that adjustment, so far I can not find any information on Adusting this Lever in the MD1 Workshop Manual I have Downloaded other than the "Control Rod Travel". Any advice on this matter would be appreciated!. |

Great Question! I also have that problem and I described it in a previous posting but never received any help. Can't belive it was almost a year I last looked at this Engine, had to leave it for a while, but now need to get it going. I have done a Compression Test and is good and checked Injectors, still having problems starting. Firing on cranking, but will not start. Any Suggestions?, is it still the Control Lever not adjusted correctly?. |

Now my md2b will start without the throttle being engaged at all, it likes to have a little more throttle when first running, but doesnt need it. Have you pressed your cold start in manually, then without touching the throttle tried to start it? this will keep the cold start and the fuel mixture richer until the throttle is moved and the cold start is disengaged by that movement. Mine runs will rich and smoky if i dont get the cold start disengaged, but it does run. |
