Osco is the name of a long time marine engine conversion manufacturer (still in business today selling manifolds). I do not believe they sold any actual engines, just the parts (manifolds, bell housings, reverse gears, etc) to convert engines (mostly automotive) to marine use. |

If its a herk then there should be casting letters/numbers on the block just above the oil pan on the right side. |

If an engine was used in a lot of other machines, then often parts can be had evan if its old. |

Yep, they were industrial engines used in things like air compressors, fork lifts, etc. If you can figure out which industrial model Hec. it is parts may be easier to find than you think. |

......and what does the ZXB stand for? I pulled this out of a boat and will rebuild it if necessary.......boat has not been in the water since 1973..........I have an advertising tear sheet that puts the engine in the year of 1947 or 1948.......In the ad it was described as an "OSCO Sea Atom". |

Thats the model number. ZXB's are not as common as the larger ixb, but are around they were used in the avery model V tractors(not a large production).Allso used in small generators and welders. |
