I have just put a Nanni n2.10 diesel in my launch, its a bit louder than i thought it would be.
I ran into a guy at a wooden boat festival who had a really nice Renault four cylinder diesel from the seventies, it was cooled by a electric water pump hooked up to a digital thermostat, he told me it ran a lot quieter when at 80 degrees celcius, the water out of my exhaust is still cold after over an hours running.
Does anyone know if a warmer engine runs Quieter? |

Yes some do.Some modern engines have a varible timeing and they hit early makeing lots more noise when cold. |

Hi Matt, yes a hot engine will run quieter slightly,
re you exhaust water being cold, is your Nanni fresh water cooled or on a heat exchanger ? fresh or raw water cooled engines should not run above 52c because the salt will build up in the water ways closing them down, if you have a heat exchanged system then the engine should reach 80c + at normal running temp but the exhaust water will not be hot but it might be slightly warm it depends on how much water the cooling pump is pushing through,
If you engine is reaching the required temp for either installation that will be fine, most engine installations are lined with a sound proofing to make them quieter.
