Timing is via shims under the Injection Pump. The more shims equals retarding, less shims equals advancing. The manual specs 8DEG BTDC. You would check this by spill timing the injection pump. I do not recall timing marks on the flywheel so one has to set this up themselves.

Now the thing is depending on how deeply you rebuilt will dictate whether you need to retime it. If you simply say stripped down cleaned her up and fitted just say a new set of piston rings then assuming you refitted all the shims that you would of removed then she should be timed OK. Unless of course someone has messed around with the factory setting.

Set timing of injector pump on Sabb.
I have never done this-fortunately. I can tell you that there is a Top Dead Center mark on the flywheel = outer edge- looks like a drill mark. Maybe get a hold of the dealer - Bill Miller (352) 589-2882 in Florida. ( on 2 H there is a second mark- two drill mark for the other cylinder)

Hello, all... I've got a new (20 hours), old Sabb Model GSP. At least that's what it says on the block. The boat was repowered 2 years ago after the original Model G (I believe) got fried. But this new engine was not exactly like the old one and required new stringers and cabinet-work, as well as a number of new parts which may or may not have been correct for this block. Evidently, ever since the install, the boat hasn't run correctly. The throttle linkage (or, perhaps the governor) appears to be much too stiff...the throttle handle in the cockpit barely budges it. I've checked the linkage from the cockpit to the "Governor shaft"...the cable moves freely. But when it's connected to the "chain fork", it doesn't. I've pulled the governor cover and everything looks ok. Ordered a new spring...it looks identical to what's in there. Other than the governor shaft spring being the wrong gauge (seems unlikely) or the wrong spring (Bill Miller assures me that all the engines use the same spring), I'm out of ideas. Any thoughts?
