I'm looking for information on a petrol marine engine, called a " morris navigator" its sidevalve and I believe was manufactured in 1947
I'm looking for any information at all please.

Neilium........I can give you a few specifications on the engine.
There were two versions of the ''Navigator'' .Both made by BMC ,Morris Motors,Ltd Cowley,Oxford,UK.
The first is a Petrol fueled engine of 1500cc,developing 35HP at 3000 rpm, 4 cylinders, Bore 2.87 x3.5 inches stroke ,weight592 Lbs and was priced in 1960 at 217 pounds stirling.
The second was a vaporizing oil [ Diesel] fueled engine, 1500 cc, 28 BHP at 3000 rpm, 4 cylinders ,2.87 bore x 3.5 inches stroke. The weight was again 592 lbs and the cost was 227 pounds stirling in 1960.
Electric and raised hand starting were standard.

The original Morris Navigator engine was a marine version of the well known (in vintage car circles)Hotchkiss car engine which was used in the Bullnose Morris. These engines continued to be made in several variants (Industrial, Marine, for static applications etc.) until the 1950's. For more details you could try the vintage Morris sites. |

in the early 1960,s i had a lifeboat conversion powered by a morris navigator. the 4 cly side valve ran on standard kero but was cold started on petrol after heating the carb bowl with a small kero blow lamp, which was ignighted by pouring as small amount of metho on some rag placed under the blowlamp jet. The motor was turned over via bicycle pedals fixed to a shaft chain connected to the flywheel.
life was so simple in those days. |

I have the same engine and I am looking for an headgasket.I tried the Morris club, but they only sell to members.Since I don't own a Morris car and live in Holland I thought there should be an other way to get one.Suggestions are welkom . I also plan to sell the engine when it runs.

I would be interested in the Morris Navigator engine - provided it's in fair condition, and it's the 1802cc sidevalve version.
I can provide pictures to help identify the model. |

The engine does run but it is not complete. It is a 1750cc we think as that is what the manual says. you can phone me on 07710651731. Dave. |

Do the engines really weigh 592lbs ready for installation? Or is that a Typo? 5� cwt [1/4+ Ton seems a lot to me for the engine of a small car - which was what the Navigator started as.
I'm writing a Paper about Dunkirk Little Ships, some of which had Morris Navigators installed, - and I would really like to get the details right.} |
