Thanks Richard,i really appreciate your help.progress is slow, trying not to get ahead of myself on this one.lots of penetrating oil and lots of heat. I have gotten the inspection plugs out of cylinder tops, one plug out of the valve cage.most of the steel bolts are almost completely rusted off.the ignitors have been drilled out to accept spark plugs.all of the ignitor hardware is rusted gone... but It had about 2 coffee cans of silt in the #2 cylinder.the walls don`t look pitted from what i can see.one piston is up and the #2 piston is down.light rust on the piston skirt.I have a 4 hp and a 5 hp of this model both of those have a domed piston. This one however has a recessed flat top style piston.there are some expansion cracks on the valve cage side but not as bad as i expected.my push is to get the cylinder off and filled with antifreeze A.S.A.P I will try to keep a update on this ones progress. Thanks bob |

* Photos appreciated ! These early, slow turning, West Coast Marine Engines are in a league all their own ! Looking for info on the 20 Hp in above post I came across this 1913 Oakland Atlas, its a big gas engine look at the size of the Scheblers ! * |

I have the remains of a 16hp Atlas twin that came out of Winter Harbour, BC. It has separate cylinders and heads. So it looks like this is a later type than the monobloc design shown above? Unfortunately the number plate is missing. Is the serial number stamped anywhere else on Atlas engines? |

This might be a good time to ask if anyone else out there has a 12hp Atlas two cylinder from the 1920s? Bob Holcomb, how is that one you posted about in 2012 coming along? Do you know of any others? I would not be surprised if it is unique. |
