Just took this old Palmer C off the bench, getting ready to run it! Palmer mixing valve and Palmer oiler ! needs a brass cyl head cover ? |

Richard, Frank and Ray would be proud of your work. I can loan you a brass cover if you want to have one spun. I loaned it to Bill Nanfield but it turned out he had a water cooled head and it didn't fit. We should have thought of that before we started. The hot head C has to be prior to 1903 as they went to the water cooled head in 1903. I like the shade of green. You are fortunate to find a Palmer made oiler and mixing valve as they are not too common. Hope you bring it to CMM next spring. |

Thanks for the kind words ! Tried to match the green paint on the inside of the flywheel! used two part etching primer and two coats of Immron ! think it'll last 100 years ?? |

Anthony, Thanks, i've e-mailed a note to you and look foreward to the Lathrop serial nos. I am still collecting Lathrop 2 stroke engine serial numbers. My purpose is to be able to determine the manufacturing date of Lathrops by their serial no's. Most helpfull would be any purchase invoices, warranty invoices or engine warranty tags,letters etc that would give the date and eng serial no. Thanks for any help Richard Durgee [email protected] |

Richard, I loaned David Ault and Bill Nanfield an orginal brass cap off my CS that came from Ernie Darrow. To our horror the man that spun the replacements slit the sides of the original for some reason and when we protested he brazed them back but I notice the braze has now turned a copper color. I don't know if you want to contact Bill Nanfield and see if the individual can make you a brass cap for your C. I am sure Dave and Bill are as disgusted as I am with the man ruining an antique so maybe Bill won't want to give the man any more business. On the other hand he probably has the pattern he used for the caps he made. I will loan you the wounded cap if that helps and you can get one made locally if that helps. I fear the beautiful paint job on the hot head will not looks so beautiful once you start running the engine. The used hot head on my C is burned all over the middle of the head. No matter the brass cap will cover it up. You have done a really beautiful restoration. |

* Dick Thanks for the nice words and offer to use your brass cap, I ended up with one of the repro cyl caps mentioned in your post above and absolutely cringed when I got word that your original cap was damaged. If ever I come across an original one I will get it and send it directly to you ! The C engine above is the one that you loaned me an original bronze rod cap for several yrs ago that I had casted and machined to finish its restoration !! I thank you again !!

I just saw one of these small Palmers today, and he had this original brass cover on the top of the head. He is looking for some pictures and literature to help him in his restoration. This one here is nice ! |

Richard, I had forgotten you got one of the brass caps. Glad you got one. I still cannot imagine any responable person doing what that man did. Life goes on and one day I will stumble over another old one. Have not done a thing with the CS since I got it home. Ernie started it at Mystic and it ran like a top. |
