These photos show a fully restored Curtiss V-12 marine engine originally built in 1912. It was restored by Jay Smith in 1917 and most recently restored by by Robert Mishko.

The cylinder jackets are Monel and it was run for the first time in 95 years. Can you imagine the noise coming from those short exhaust pipes.

It will be installed in a replica of Gar Wood's Miss Detroit.

Thanks to Robert and Fred Abbe for sharing the photos

.

That's a "work of art", just wondering about the clothespin style springs on the exhaust. Maybe to keep them away from the heat.

CORRECTION - It was Mark Mason who did the restoration work and took the photos.

My apologies to Mark.

Thanks for speaking up Robert and setting the record straight. A wonderful job of restoring a significant historical engine.
