Is this the rear lifting eye? Found the front one on the head bolts.  |

The should be one up front somewhere.
It looks like a Hercules block used by Gray, ChrisCraft and Buchanan and others.
However, I usually use 2 lifting straps around the engine to lift them.

And it is always much, much safer to pick up an engine with lifting eyes than a strap because the high mounted eyes assure that the C.G. is below the attachment point and the load cannot roll over in the slings.

I just got through lifting my Gray 100 as my initial step in my engine stripdown and complete rebuild! Both your lifting eyes are evident in your photos! You've located your aft lifing eye in the left side of your lower photo. Your fwd lifting eye is immediately inboard of your generator on the fwd left side of your flathead. It's bolted on with the two bolts. You probably missed it because its of thinner stock compared to the aft eye!

PB Rust Blaster will be your best friend. You'll need a stud removal tool to loosen all those head and exhaust manifold studs! |
