Several years ago, I purchased a 1956 Lyman 18'-4" "Runabout" model that was severely deteriorated. I have now completely re-bent in its white oak frames, 1/2 way through new scarfed planking, etc. Because I assume the Gray 100 and its transmission were as poorly maintained as the rest of the boat, I assume it will also need an extensive restoration. I live in eastern upstate NY, (near the Vermont Border). I've seen advertisements for VanNess Engineering in N.J. and Drake Engines, in Rochester, NY, both of whom are reasonable drives for me to load the block up in my utility trailer. Has anybody else had any favorable/unfavorable experiences with either them or any other re-builder, here in the N.E.? If you don't want to publicly criticize anybody, you could privately inform me at [email protected]. Thank you. Alan Briggs |

Alan - there was a really good marine engine re-builder in Brant Lake, NY but I can't find a phone number for them. |
