Michael,.. You have a good looking 3-71 Detroit GM Diesel, with Keel Cooling,..(Which is the best on a Marine Engine)and it is a "Very" Realiable Engine,..if you Service the Oil and Fuel Filters and check to see if you have a Fuel/Water Seperater, like a Racor one, that mounts ahead of the engine, from the Fuel Tank to the Engine. Keeping the wtare out of the Fuel. The Gallons per minute fuel consumption varies per your Hull design and Gear ratio/prop, but it is usually good. |

Michael,.. I forgot to mention, that your Model Number for the 3-71 is on the ID Tag/Label on the side of your Valve Cover, but also on upper right side of the Block and it also gives you all the ID Type Numbers for the Components on the 3-71, to match up in a Detroit Diesel Parts Book. |

Awesome! I haven't bought it yet but needed to know. Ok let me ask you something. On a fiberglass boat with not much under the water line (3' draft, 12' beam, 40 lwl) how much per hour would it burn do you think? I can compare this for your reference; with this hull a 6-71 headed to the fishing grounds would burn 6-7 gallons an hour. While fishing it would burn about 3 per hour. So, take a stab at it if you wouldn't mind. BTW, thanks so much for taking the time to answer my first post, relief!!! |
