I posted last night but never saw it come through. I REALLY like the looks of this boat. It would be better if it was 6 or 8 feet longer but would look great with one of my engines in it. My question is how much engine weight would be suitable for this hull? I'd like to install my 2.5 HP Clarke engine in it. Last photo located here: WWW.herculesengines.com/clarke Would this be a suitable engine? Anybody traveling from MASS to points West that could get it partway to Indiana?? Thanks. Keith |

I forgot to mention that the Clarke engine weight is 300 lbs plus a reverse gear. Keith |

Keith, I think the Clarke would be too much for that boat. A 1 1/2 to 3 HP lighter two stroke would be fine and allow for reversing as well. Jim |

Thanks for the input Jim. I thought the Clarke might be a little heavy. My second choice is an Evansville Gas Engine Works "Boy Scout" engine. It weighs 150 lbs. I just started a new topic with photos and info about the engine. Would it be suitable for this boat? Keith |

Keith, That Boy Scout is a nice looking engine. If it is a smooth runner, it may work. Based on Nadler marine engine recommendations of a 12-18' boat for their 110 pound 2 1/2 HP and 16'-22' boat for their 135 pound 4 HP, it is a little heavy. Maybe someone with a similar boat can shed some light on this matter. Jim |

Thanks Jim. Sounds like I better keep looking for a boat. I'd hate to have something that doesn't work well in the hull. Anybody know of anything available? Keith |

In the $850 range it could make since for me even though I'd probably have to find a suitable smaller engine. But to pick it up would add about $600.00 in gas money alone then add hotels etc. and it prices it out of my league. Keith |

Based on the planking pattern, the engine bed and the wide rib spacing, I don't think anything more than a 1 1/2 HP engine should be put into the boat. Th sistered ribs were probably put in to deal with the effects of the vibration issue from the engine. The seams at the garboard and keel are the most likely sources of leaks. In any case, the boat looks were light and would probably do very well with the 1 1/2 HP engine. A bigger engine would shake the fastenings loose in a short year or two of running and then it would become a pain to keep afloat. I'd love to get the boat, but I've already got 2 projects underway and a third is simply not possible. But, if I ever get down to your neck of the woods Ernie, yes, I will take the opportunity to visit your pile of (oops- collection) stuff. Miro |

Any information ever surface on who bought this and what they are doing with it. I have one almost identical to it that also is in good shape and needs restoration and an engine which I hope will begin this year. Walter Hogan Cooprestown NY |
