Can anyone help me identify (type, model etc.) a Coventry Victor engine. The "drive" (please correct me if this is not called drive, I am not a mariner) has a serial number 17152 but no year. Attached is a photo.

I am pretty sure that it is a "Midget" but I am really interested in how old it is? I havent started it yet but I think it was in ok shape when my father stored it, many years ago. Any suggestions? |

It looks like a midget type, but a could have been used for anything, hard to tell without seeing the flywheel and exhaust. If that is a handle on it and it had a drive gear behind the flywheel, then it could be an old outboard motor, or just the engine part anyway. or just an inboard motor. don't know age, as no info if available. Hard to tell from one picture, need to see more. I have midget manuals and the engine you have is a little more basic and its back to front. maybe needing to run in the opposite direction. Hi Keith and thanks for the replay. It is actually an outboard motor with the flywheel and a chain-drive on the other side (behind the exhaust). The starting handle is turning the wrong way for storage and the black bow is a handle for stearing. I will post more photos tomorrow. Regards, Daniel |

It's a 40's one I think. Coventry Victor outboard, sold to the admiralty, as they seemed to like them, with the full length chain drive gives it away. I have the 50,s model. No info around on any of them, I'm lucky to have all the original paperwork with my one and as it is a Midget motor, I have Midget manuals as well. If you look at other Coventry motors you will see that the starting handle is on the other side of the motor, as this is a direct chain drive the motor has to run backwards so the prop will run in the right direction. I have always likes the motors. Have a look, it my old site may help. http://www.wytewych.com/page4.html |
