My understandingg of Automatic was that their engines were strictly marine; however, a "J" (5" bore) has turned up in a Case tractor and an "N" (7" bore) has turned up in a Buckeye ladder trencher.
Does anyone here know if Automatics were built or sold for other uses beside marine??? (my computers sick, can't get into Google, and searches badly in other search sites). Many thxx for any comments.

Red Wing made marine engines, but sold a few to put in tractors and lawn mowers. One possible reason for this is the financial terms of the major engine suppliers like Waukesha and Hercules. I read one story that for a small marine company to buy engines, they had to buy 25 at a time, and pay the total at delivery with cashiers check. If this is true, than a company that only wanted a few motors had to get theirs elsewhere.
