hi, aquired a flathead ford engine with a lyman marine transmission and exhaust manifolds. which boat would use a ford motor? the flathead is a 1946-1948. thanks mac |

Hi Mac
I don't know of any prodution boat that used a flathead ford. IN our part of the world (Ottawa-Rideau Lakes)the flathead was usually a second engine, put in a boat to give it more power. It usually replaced a small 40-60 Kermath or Buchanan from boats built in the 1930's. Most of the conversions were done in the 1940's and 1950's I had a Jeffrey runabout that had a Ford Flathead in it that had been installed to replace a small Kermath. Many Fords were souped up in by local garage speed shops (dual-triple carb setups, Offy heads, that sort of thing). A few custom boats were built locally with Fords for power. All 125 class boats built locally all used Ford 60's. |

hi steve, thanks for the info on my flathead. it does have a edmond two carb intake and adjustable lifters. i bought it for the engine is anyone interested in the trans and exhaust manifolds? any information on a value would help. thank you mac. |

My mate has a 22 foot cruiser with a perkins 4-cyl diesel rated at 30hp, with a "thames marine propulsion systems" gearbox, a hydraulic-type setup that takes transmission fluid. This power-plant must date back to about 1970 or earlier (1950?) at a guess. He has blown a seal in the box, after he ran her nearly dry of fluid for a while and she was selecting forward/reverse sluggishly. I gave him some needed advice and he topped her up...that night she blew the seal. Anyone heard of "Thames Marine propulsion Systems" gearboxes, and what became of them/spare parts or diagrams etc.? Sam Shepherd's play *True West* mentions a 1940 Ford flathead. I'm doing a scene from this play for an acting class in NYC, and I'm wondering if anybody can beam me a photo of a '40 flathead Ford, so I can have the visual in my head. That'd be swell. Thanks. John Weir, NYC. |

Can anyone help me with piston rings for a 4hp, 2 cycle, Model 24 Lockwood-Ash engine? The piston and cylinder bore are in good condition. Piston rings were missing when I got the engine.
Three identicle ring groves are in the piston. Dimensions are as follows:Cyl. Bore-4.000in.,Piston-3.995in.,Groves-.304in. to .312in. wide by .182in.to .191in.deep. John |

comment about flathead ford marine engine
I have aquired for just hauling away both right and
left hand engines. they came out of owens and on transmissions is stamped owens flagship. they are 6 cylinder engines with ford name casted in the head on each engine. 95 horse rated |

Mac, I am building a crackerbox ski boat, I have a flathead ford v8 and have been looking for a trans and exhaust manifolds,I am very interested, please give me a chance at these, I also have quite a lot of performance parts for a flathead if you need more, my dad drag raced flathead powered dragsters in the 50s and we still have parts |

Hello All, (Lago Maggiore Italy, Sept 9, 2011)
I have an Italian motorboat in wood from the 70's which runs a Ford Interceptor V8, 185 hp, from the same period. Mine's block is cracked as are the seals and I can't for the life of me find any spares. I'd also consider a more modern rebuild woth 200+ hp with the same footprint and low profile in order to fit but I can't find anyone here who seems to know anything. the constructor is long gone and sons don't know. Can someone help me? |

FORD SUPPLIED THE BASE ENGINES TO INTERCEPTOR FOR MARINIZATION. WHO KNOWS, MAYBE YOU WILL FIND ONE IN ITALY. |
