Can anyone offer comments on the use of Lubriplate No, 115 Water Pump Grease to lubricate main bearings on a 1 1/2hp two cycle marine engine? It is a calcium based grease with a NLGI grade of 4. Most wheel bearing greases have a NLGI grade of 1 or 2 and wont stay in the worn front bearing on my Detroit Auto Marine 1 1/2hp marine engine. Thanks, Arthur |

Try to find old time water pump grease. Wheel bearing grease is much too fluid for two-stroke crankshaft bearings |

The experience that many of the DisPro folks have is to use relatively light weight grease and make sure that you turn the grease cup every 20 - 30 mintes of running time. It makes for an oily bilge but keeps the bearings alive for up to 20 years in some cases - The DisPro's are a 3 port engine .
Usual practice has been to rebuild the engine if the bearings are badly worn enough to make it hard to start. Trying to push heavy weight grease through the small tubes from the grease cup to the bearing doesn't work well on small engines.
