I am not familiar with this company, but there is a nameplate for sale on ebay.... just in case one of us has the engine and wants the plate...
I don't see any reference to that company in some of the indexes I checked. I guess they could have been steam engine mfg instead of gas.

I recalled seeing this name, but couldn't remember where. Gardner Hiscox 1905-06 index of United States and Canada eng builders lists
" Marine Engine and Machine Co. but in New York ??
Would like to see an index of steam eng makers in 1890's probably in there like you said ??
The scroll work tags on marine engs seem to be from pre 1910 and earlier designs ????
This tag is Sterling 1904-06
What other scroll work tags are out there ???

What a great old tag ! Pieces of art to my eye, as are many of the old engines they adorn.
The word tag doesn't seem appropriate either, maybe an Emblem or Badge would be more fitting ??

Not up on MEMC of Harrison NJ. Another curveball, is there any info in that Gardner Hiscox about an Uncle Sam inboard engine, manufactured by Kumberger and Vreeland, 33-35 Sullivan Street NYC? I just bought a 4 hp made by them, shipped on December 6 1905. |

Uncle Sam's badge is really impressive. I have to ask about the last photo showing the centrifugal governor and rotary pump etc: that stuff was from another engine?? |

Have been looking through my eng's and discovered this "NamePlate" on a twin cyl Roberts.
If your not familiar with the name E.W. Roberts,he was at the turn of the century, probably the most prolific writer,designer,engineer,inventor and manufacturer of gasoline engines. He was a man of speed, a racer at heart.
An aft cockpit open stacked race boat thundering out of a ships wheel seems to tell the whole story and capture the essence of the great man ??

I just looked at your "Heritage Engine Collection" list and see only one NR-3 listed, a 1923 in the Mariners Museum, if so, then what a very special find and freshwater too ( does it get any better than this)??? |

I got the NR-2 in 1973. Hope it doesn't take this long to get an NR-4. The NR-3 is in incredible condition inside and only surface rust on the outside. Apparently someone used it as a stationary power unit. I have Ernie to thank for finding it for me. |

Campbell Motor Co."nameplate" this is a file photo from Bill Schaller's three cylinder marine eng.
Campbell---- Camel sounds similar.
The Camel is a symbol of long journey's ?
I read in literature some where that Camels were
called "ship's of the desert" ??
Cool nameplate.
