Resized another pic and found the Brooks/DuBrie/Gray post below. Any opinions on make, hp, and timer. http://www.oldmarineengine.com/discus/messages/1/1594.html

* Interesting repair to the top of the cylinder, looks to have been a three way crack from spark plug hole and plug repositioned at side, cracked like that probably caused by water freezing ?? * |

* Looked at all my photos of this style DuBrie engine and all have spark plug in center of cyl, but possible that this is another mfgr using DuBrie design and the engine above was mfgd with spark plug on side ? ( Would be pretty good machine work to remake spark plug hole in headless engine ) water fitting in center ? anyone seen a Dubrie with a rotary timer ? all photos here have the Tuttle oscillating timer ?? * |

The timer looks pretty original and is the only difference. Everything else including the Essex vaporizer with external float bowl are the same. I think your earlier suggestion that the plug was moved during crack repair is most likely the right answer. Also lets NOT start calling it a Tuttle timer as lots of others used that style. Bell Isle for one. |

* Yes several engine mfgrs used this unique Oscillating Timer, I researched it several yrs ago when I acquired a Tuttle Twin. This is the original Patent applied for 1902 issued 1904 #755817 http://www.google.com/patents?id=ueVcAAAAEBAJ&pg=PA1&dq=755817&source=gbs_selected_pages&cad=1#v=onepage&q&f=false Found info that Tuttle sold rights to several Companies to use the design as early as 1905. 1.The Dubrie designed engs- Brooks etc in above photos. 2. Dick & Barbara Days Very nice Belle Isle 3.Grasser 4.Rialto 5.Tuttle twin that perked my curiosity about the oscillating Timers There are probably other mfgrs that used this timer these were the ones in my list ! * |

Richard, Quote from above "There are probably other mfgrs that used this timer these were the ones in my list" My point exactly this style no matter who did or did not patent it does not necessarily make it a Tuttle |
