Anybody know anything about this type of motor or what kind/size of thermostat originally came in it? My husband bought this motor in a 22' Harker's Island skiff a week or so ago. He thinks it's about a 1970's model, not sure. He says it's running a little warmer than it should. The manual we got with it says the operating range in salt water is between 140-155 degrees & fresh water 150-180 degrees. My husband says it's running about 200. He's afraid it's going to run hot. He was going to replace the thermostat in the motor only to find it didn't have one in it. Now he doesn't know what size to put in it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It came with the one the manual says. If someone took it out, it usually indicates a problem. It is really common to see thermostats missing in an attempt to solve an overheating condition. The real cause can be one or several. For example: worn or broken impeller, clogged hoses, clogged or corroded block, clogged or corroded exhaust, leaking head gasket, timing, worn piston and rings.
