My wife and Iive aboard an old power boat. She was built in Victoria in 1934. She currently has a Perkins 6-354 that, while a good engine is too much for her. I have no plans to repower her soon, but am curious as to what a good choice would be. I would like something in the 50 to 75 hp range and would love it if it were old and appropriate for the vessel, assuming that it ran well and gave good service. I would love to find something and rebuild it so I could learn as much as possible about it. Suggestions? Thanx in advance. |

I have purchased a used Perkins 6 cylinder turbo and was informed the engine was 185 hp. How would I do a search using the serial number on the engine to determine the year built and the accurate model number and confirm the hp rating. Serial Number is TE8861U566763F. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

Well i found some info.It was made in 1978 and probably in the usa,not england.Continous hp would be 125 to 135.Maximum hp would be in the 150 to 170 range. This is for engines running in the 2200 to 2400 rpm range.the numbers could go up if running faster. If a serial number looks like his the last letter denotes the year,B is 75,Cis 76,d-77,f-78. |
