Hello Folks, I just got a 2 cylinder Scripps and have a couple of questions. 1st, There is something on the left side missing near the distributor drive, this is gear driven from under a aluminum cover. What is missing? 2nd, Left side near the flywheel there is a exposed gear what does this drive? 3rd, What is the HP? 4th, Model M number 510 What is the year of manufacture? Thank You very much Matt in Western Washington |

1. The vertical drive is to the force feed oiler. 2. The horizontal drive to Water Pump. 3. 9Hp at 600 Rpm > 11 at 700 > 13 at 800 4.This is from a 1911 catalog. |

Richard, thank you for the pictue and the info. What is the gear directly behind the flywheel on the Port side for? Does anyone have and parts? Or a parts engine that could be had? I have the oiler \timer but am in need of the waterpump, water manifolds, exhaust manifold and what ever the part is that sticks up off the block behind the flywheel. Thank You Andrew, and Thank You for your help, Matt |

Matt If a gear then it's for an optional high tension magneto for dual ignition with timer or distributor. if a small wheel its for the optional air compressor that is in pic below, some of these engs had both. These options and the wet exhaust were new for 1911, helpfull in dating these old timers. > Anyone know why an air compressor would be on an old Marine engine( Nowhere in catalog is an air start option mentioned), only chain drive hand cranks as many mfgs made available ?? |

Air compressor could have been for a air horn option. Just a guess!! Roger |

Roger I think your guess is right on. I recall reading about the change from steam to internal combustion engs there wasn't a ready supply of air presure for the whistle required on vessels for signaling. 1906 hand operated whistle 1906 compressor kit mounts to eng, with whistle. |

Thank You for the information, the manifold is broke in two with the back half gone... so I was just going to the the Stainless straight pipe thing for now. But the water pump I will need one of those. Any one have one? Pulled the side cover off the other night and to my surprize it looked pretty good. Bottom the the cylinders still fairly bright so hopefully it is not stuck to bad on the top. No oil in the crank case but not rusty. Will keep you updated as thing progress. Thanks again Matt |
