I picked up this Briggs BM/1 marine engine today complete with drive shaft and brass prop. Runs great with no smoke. Built in 1941. Can anyone please tell me about this motor? Rare? Value?

A model B would bring $100 the marine version with prop, maybe $250-$300 The only difference in the engine is the brass tag and the oil pan/motor mount. Looks great I have not found one out here on the west coast yet.

This is only the second United States Marine engine I have seen since I bought mine a few years back. I recently had Richard Durgee(thanks Richard) post photo's of mine. My engine is water cooled. This looks to be a larger engine than mine and air cooled. My engine has never had oil or gas put in it. It's all there and original. Thanks for the photo's. My engine is under the canoe engine post. |

Hey Sollarog,
I guess I need to ship mine to Calif. I paid 10 bucks for mine and a perfect Briggs B went for 35 here in the North East recently.

As always you milage may vary. It alway makes a difference where an engine is being offered, offer it to flywheel engine guys and they wouldn't give you $10 for it, know your market. Out here on the west coast most of the early engines and equipment have been recycled for cash. Back in the farm belt, Nothing left home, Alot of this stuff has made its way west. I know I bought some of it. And had it shipped here. |
