Hi all, I have a Hall Scott Defender shelf of parts and part engine which I need to sell because she who commands is limiting me to one or two mad restoration projects at a time and some school fees must be paid and although I love the Defender IT MUST GO. I will be listing parts on ebay under 'powerandpassion' or contact me directly if you need anything. I'm in Melbourne Australia. Please help me find domestic peace. If Hall Scott made expensive handbags we wouldn't be selling this, no siree. |

Lew, Thanks for making contact and for the sympathy! In a nutshell there is a block, pistons and running gear, some transmission parts, heads, some intake manifold parts, some exhaust manifold parts, half an ignition system, one carb, starter, oil pump and various other bits and pieces scrounged up. What I've got sits halfway between a project that requires more parts to make a whole or parts that would go to making a few other engines whole. The way I figure it these parts are an organ donation that will go into many other engines to keep more Defenders going over the long term. Some parts will be listed this Friday and others when I get home leave over the next few weeks. I need to clear out the garage within the month. Parts are heavy and air postage is cruel, so if you have some folks that want to bundle postage or fill a crate that will go by ship this will keep costs down. I am allowed by the wife (she's not totally bad)to keep going on one project which are De Havilland Mosquito aviation parts. If you have any of these or Canadian friends with these I would gladly swap stuff. Kind regards, Ed |

I'll post any comments on my string. So, one coil charges through the center point and another coil through the offset wire terminal > ring, and then the head distributes to one plug (at 180 deg.) on one bank of cylinders and to another plug on the other bank, while the other distributor (charged by the two other coils) distributes simultaneously (or almost) to the two other plugs of these same cylinders, is that right? Before that, the two "points" (contact breakers?), also at 180 deg. of each distributor charge their respective coils (= four at the total) . Engine could run perfectly with one distributor only, or any coil, plug or contacts failing, then! Genius!!! I think that idea is theoretically true, but if memory serves, ignition on those old 12's was always the kicker... trying to get a complete burn of the gas, and having a hot enough spark to work with. Double plug points systems had all kinds of hiccups... most of those engines would run on 8 or 10 cylinders, and if a couple of plugs were coughing and spluttering, the engine would run, but dismal performance for it's size. |
