I have a 1911 or so Erd 34 Hp. It is a 4 cylinder and was used in a launch known as the
"fastest boat on the Hudson". The pistons are 5 inches diameter. this is a 2 cycle engine. The carbs are early Holley updrafts. It uses a pump driven oiler. It is in near original condition. It would help to know what sort of information you are looking for. |

Erd TF's (4x6) and TFU's (41/2x6) were used in several US tractor makes, but I'd assume tractor restorers would bid high for any found...
A history of Saginaw County says they built "...heavy truck and tractor motors...", but I don't recall any Erd's in trucks, altho many truck builders claimed their "own" engines when they were actually from engine builders... |

Greetings--A little more on the founding of Erd:
Erd Motor Company, Ltd., The
The Erd Motor Company, Ltd. was a marine engine manufacturer located at 1357-1363 N. Niagara, Saginaw, Saginaw County, Michigan. John G. Erd and Harry S. Erd were the principals of the firm. The company emerged out of the former Erd Machine Company. By 1906 the company was in the process of increasing the size of its plant and was installing new machine tools. An article in Motor Boat in December 1905 stated that the company would be building motors ranging in size from 1 to 20 horsepower, using jigs and templates to assure the interchangeability of parts. At the same time, the company also planned to bring out a 16-foot launch equipped with a 1- ½ h.p. motor, selling for $125 and with an estimated speed of 8 miles per hour. The motor weighed 65 lbs and sold separately for $50.00.
The firm was incorporated in March 1909 with a capital of $25,000. It published a catalogue in its early years.
Officers of the firm in 1910 included John G. Erd as president and general manager; R.[A.?] H. Knapp, vice-president; and Harry S. Erd, secretary and treasurer.
The company reportedly built lightweight racing engines in 1912. It also made auto parts. In 1913 its office and works were listed at the corner of Mackinaw and Niagara Streets.
Erd Motor Company of Saginaw, Michigan filed notice of its dissolution on January 19, 1923.
The company was turned over to receiver Raymond R. Kendrick of Saginaw and a receiver’s sale of all machinery, land, buildings, assets, properties, rights and credits of the Erd Motors Corporation was held on April 5, 1929.

I know this is out of the blue, but I work for the Castle Museum of Saginaw County History and we are in search of an Erd Motor Company motor for an exhibit on the automotive past of Saginaw County. We are interested in a donation or possibly purchasing one. We also have much information on the company if anyone has questions, as well. |
