I know from reading here that the starter is not the big problem! As I see it the issue is how to you get a 12V generator with the shaft for the water pump?? To remake the 6V generator seems to be very expensive, at least here in Sweden! I would cost over $ 900 !! |

I would check another source. $900 is 4 times the cost here in the US. |

Gray Marine used 12V generators in the 'shaft driven water pump' configuration after 1954 or so. You should be able to find used ones online. You would still probably want to have it rebuilt however. |

my 1956 is shaft driven water pump through the grn. and is 6 volt, so when you find all the ans. along with changing from pos. grd to a nrg. grd. let me know. the last est. I got here in Fl. was around 1000 dollors. |

I have to tell you from past experience, that many people who convert from 6V to 12V regret that so-called upgrade. For example re-winding the 6V generator to make 12V means that you'll only get half of the output current compared to the 6V output because the generators are rated on output power ( i.e. Volts x Amps) But you are correct, using 12V on a 6 V starter is OK. I've been using a configuration of two 6V batteries so that I get 12V to the starter yet have everything else running on 6V. That way the engine stays original but it is easier to start. I posted that configuration a couple of years ago - I'll see if I can get the link for you. miro |

6V light bulbs can be had from antique car sources. The only place I found that makes 6V bilge pumps is Lovett. They are hard to find. www.classicboatconnection.com usually has them |

Hakan, Total cost was just alittle over $500, but remember all I had was a rusty case. No end plates or internal parts. Frank made everything new. I had spent months looking for a replacement or someone who could rebuild it. Got alot of " I will try anf find parts" with no promises and $400 ESTIMATES. Frank said: No problem, I can make the parts. I am extremely happy with the results. |

Might be easiest to get the part number off the generator. I'll look to see if I can find one here cheaper than shipping yours from Sweden. |

Wow Jim, you´re fast! I´ll hope it will work out right then! I´ve parts for my 69 Camaro that will be shipped to my town in Sweden from California Shipping, Stanton! Could that be easier for you in that case to ship it to Stanton? |
