I don't know that engine, but one thing thats common is the fuel cutoff sticking in the off spot. My uncles brittish leyland did it all the time.

Hi Montrose,
As a retired Marine Engineer I have had this problem with BMC engines that have been left standing for a long period when they are a bit worn, Remove the injectors and put about a table spoon of engine oil down each bore turn the engine over three of four times and replace the injectors and go for a normal start, make sure your battery is full before you do this,
If this is the problem it is caused by the oil draining off the worn bore reducing the compression, the oil will reinstate it for a start and the oil pressure when running will re oil the bore.

If your still looking for a manual you can get a re-print from ASAP's. Do you know what the horse power is for a BMC 2.2?
