It is the same as the Wisconsin AEH engine used. Should be easily obtained. Look for someone who handles air cooled engine repairs. Lot of Wisconsins still around. |

I would just rebuild it myself. As long as the case is not torn up and the magnets are ok. Its not rocket science. The xh-1 is common and simple inside. The old ones are squarish and have a brass tag newer ones are more rounded and no brass. Parts for the xh-4 are easy to find ,have not bought any for the small ones in a long time. |

Thanks Lawrence. I'm a little anxious so I almost have the magneto disassembled. I just recieved the 2 manuals for the pw27. It helps with the magneto but it doesn't have information on the transmission. Is there another manual that I missed, I want to take it apart and check it. In reverse it only rotates 3/4 of turn and stops - each way...rotates fine in forward. Any help would be appreciated! I'll be an expert in 10 years...maybe. Thanks, Jack |

The reverse does not lock in place like the forward. When you operate the reverse gear you are tightening a brake band around the drum holding the sun and planet gears. Typically what happens is the brake shoe wears and it slips so you don't get full reverse action. simply tighten the 330 bolt on the OXKB transmission. If the brake band is badly worn inserting a washer or two on the bolt will allow more pressure if the threads on the 330 bolt have all been used up. Check the oil level is about 1 " below the aft shaft of the reverse gear. SAE 30 non detergent is fine and the oil in the reverse gear is not shared with the engine crankcase. |
