A friend down here on the south coast has an Albin engine found on the local rubbish tip. It was minus a few parts , timing gear and cylinder head . Not to be daunted Bob has cast a new head and is at this moment filing up a new gear . Through SEL i have been able to get Bob a manual ,being sent from Holland ......you make some good friends on the NET. |

Perhaps this is coincidence? Probably not as you are both in Western Australia. I presume this is the same guy that Steve Green knows - we posted a message for him some time ago under the thread "Seeking an Albin Head". |

Sirs, We owning a Albin Engine, still running on a sail boat in Rio Grande/RS Brazil. This engine (2 cyl) was brought here from a very old boat, and we do not know exactly the fabricating date. We are now having some problems with its SEM magnetto, which is showing some failures. Have you any idea where we can find SEM MAGNETTO spareparts? |

Peter, thanks for your information. Hope someone can help us. Here in Brazil we are forced to keep old engines running as we do not have many options to get an marine engine to boats ranging from 30 to 40 feet longs except those Yanmar engines that costs almost the same as the boat. |

Richard, try Marks Magneto Service, 395 South Burnham Highway, Lisbon CT. 06351 USA. If Mark can't help- he may know someone who can. He performs his magic throughout the Northeast USA at all the major Machinery shows during the warm weather months. Phone 1-860-887-1094. |

I have an Albin 0-21 petrol emgine installed in my boat. Generally the engine has been running very well. I think I have an electrical problem maybe with the timing or distributor. It will start but runs very unevenly. Perol is getting through. When I increase the throttle it is missing and eventually will stop. Any ideas??? |

alyons, i know the problem, it seems to be the ignition. when it heats up it wil start to missfire and eventualy it will stop completly. i've tried many a thing, but exchanging it seems to be the best solution. i'm trying to replace it with the compleet ignition of an aold 2 cilinder car engine. when that ever should work i will post pictures en a manual. good luck! |

Marc, Very interested to hear from you if the upgrade has worked. Looking to upgrade my petrol fueled Albin O-21 from the 30's to coil ignition as the magneto spark can not be trusted that much. Hate to swimm around in the canals of Amsterdam when it cuts out on me again... |

does anyone know anything about: two cylinder , two stroke engine, think it is model 021? Albin co. Kristineham : currently fitted in a 17ft fishing boat. think it is paraffin, rather than petrol. hoping to restore, if I can obtain a manual on it. most of the essential parts appear to be there, apart from air inlet / filter. Also: In answer to my own question on how to upgrade to coil ignition: SIMPLE. Get yourself a good coil from an older car. New cars have very high voltage sparks. I got a coil from a MG for free froma firend. Somewhere else the coil from a Ford Escort (older model) was suggested. If a resistor is fitted originally(which brings down the operating current from 12 volts to say 9 volts), also use this in the new setup. 3 wires run from this: 1 to 12V plus, 1 to the contactbreakerpoints, and the last one is the high current lead. Connect the high current lead to the lip inside the magneto. For this I use the hole in the cover of the magneto, once used for the grounding/killswitch. I removed the old coil (inside the magneto) and put it away in a drawer for when I ever want to rebuild it to its original setup. I insulated the connection to the copper-lip well using rubber and plastic. You dont want the spark to jump inside the magneto. Hook up to a battery and presto: it works brilliantly! Never a weak spark ever again as a result of a weakenend magneto. Please not that a flat battery also means a dead engine. But the way I built it, I could reverse the entire operation if I wanted to, using only a screwdriver, whenever I want. To make it even better I also installen a Velleman Electronic Ignition set (only 15 Euro's at my local electronics shop). See www.velleman.be for ww delivery. This way the points do not need to be gapped so accurately anymore. 0,5 mm or more is perfectly acceptable. Detailed (simple) instruction are inclosed in the kit. You will need to solder it up yourself. Takes 30 minutes top. Next in line is the installment of a dynastart. The mounting plate for this I decided to make myself after they were asking over 150 Euro's for what is basiccally 8 Euro's worth of bended steel plate.... Good luck for those who want to try the above. Its really simple to do! Rgds Peter |

Last saturday I runned for first time my 100% rebuilt Albin 021. It is painted in a beautiful marine blue, with all the water and oil tubes in copper and brass fittings. Also I found and restored the original ascendent solex carburator. For what I could expected for a first test, it runned perfect... a bit fat in gas. Does anybody know the diameter of the carb jets or where I can find the specification manual.... Thanks in advance. |

Thank you very much Malcom. It would be helpfull if you can find that information. Let me tell you that this saturday I will be fitting the engine in my boat and if I make time I will try to give the engine the needed degrees in orther to align it to the shaft. Last week I tested the engine in ground and it runned perfect, good oil pressure, perfect water temp, and a beautifull sound at low revolutions... I nearly could count each explosion, also it had a good reaction when I accelerated it. If everything goes as I think, next weekend I will be making the fuel connections and the wiring.... and run a final test in real conditions.... TRYING TO MOVE MY YACHT !!!!. Thanks a lot in advance. Hi John, the parts you need can be ordered in Sweden, http://www.forsmarin.se This might be quite expensive (thought about 3000 SEK, 300 Euro's!) , better is to look for a secondhand one for example in Holland. Loads of albins still exist in Holland, but you may need your connections to find the right part and this may take a long time. At the moment I have two O1 manifolds in stock but I need them for my own. Regards, Maarten |

hi, i've just bought a snapdragon 26 with an albin type 21 enginr, around 1968 i think, after a slight overheat it's losing power under load, and spluttering and spitting slightly, has anyone any ideas what to check for first. the engine is in situ and so there is limited access. thanks |

Hi, I have an Albin O-21, with a chain starter. The engine has been great until now. But, suddenly the handle rotates the chain, without any resistance and no start. Any suggestions? Regards, Espen |

Hi there. I have an Albin O21 engine which I bought some time ago as a project. It has a Penta gearbox but is missing the Dynastart, cranking handle and other bits and bobs. The engine itself turns over freely and the gearbox engages fine. Unfortunately the exhaust manifold is broken and the carb has a small repair done with Chemical Metal or similar. I have the magneto which I have kept dry but it is probably only suitable for parts. To get to the point, I'm not going to get around to doing justice to this engine and I anyone wishes to buy it as a whole or I will break it please let me know. The engine is located on the Isle of Skye in Scotland. I can send pictures if anyone is interested. Many thanks. Martin |

@ Peter V I have an Albin O-21 with a SEM magneto. I did the coil conversion regarding your experience. Sadly i have no spark. I've did everything as You said. I've conected the high current to the copper plate where the magneto coil was attathed and then I connected the minus to the both contact breaker points. The last cable (+12v) connected to the battery. The only effect is that the coil gets very warm. Please if You can attach some photos of your upgrade. |

Hi Dave Albin 011-022 1 Liter SAE 30 Motor oil, change after 250 running hours or once a year, according to the manual. I have a Albin 011 and have bin using Donax automatic transm. fluid on the gearbox for 7 years or so with out a change, occasionally checking the color of the fluid and how slippery on the fingertips, works fine it still looks and feels as new. For spare parts and manuals look at www.albinmotor.com ps. live in Iceland |

There was an error in my previous post. The quantity of the oil applies only to 011 and 021, not 022, as you probably know |

I have a 1963 Albin AL-23 which is running, just. I need some spares and wonder if anyone out there has an old AL-23 they are willing to break up for spares? I have tried Fors Marin (albinmotor.com) and the various links to other marine spares companies around Europe on their web site. The parts I need are the Ring Gear (mine has very worn teath) and the Exhaust Manifold Assembly. I'm based on the Thames in the UK. |

Hi anyone - I am a co-owner of a Skentelbery of Plymouth built 1936 gentleman's motor launch (Elsie Isabel) in Plymouth UK. She has twin Albin AD21 engines and the gear mechanisms have failed (one stuck in forward and the other has neutral and forward). Does anyone out there have second hand gear mechanisms for sale please? |

hi pauleez40 i have 021 my fly wheel had play in it but not to worry.if i had a tight fly wheel which i have had on other old engines,i would put the puller on take up the tension then useing a plumbers blow torch heat the end of crank &middle of flywheel for 4/6minutes tapping the end of crank not to hard as to wreak crank also increase tension on puller as u go the crank is tapeard so it should come of i have done this on other engines o/k all the best dave. |

Hi Can I jump in on an old post here. I was wondering if anyone on the site had an Albin O21/Marna/Volvo Penta MB10a/Ailsa Craig twin cylinder petrol that they no longer had a use for? I would like to rebuild my Ailsa Craig to make it as reliable as possible. Cheers |
