Hi to all, I am new to this forum and even to this new hobby of mine. I bought an old boat with a Stuart engine R3Ly, which I wish to restore and have some information about it, like the date of manufactur and maybe when last was in production. If anybody has parts drawing I would be glad to pay for it. Any help is much appreciated, and thank you for your time. Alf. |

Hi, With the help of Mike.H, many thanks. I managed to download 2 Stuart Engines manuals. I have 2 questions, in the first one "Instructions Type R2 & R3 there are some pages missing 9 to 14 plus no 17, any reason why? second question, since my engine is type R3LY, does these manuals apply to it also? It sems that the R3Ly was not very popular, because you can't find anything about it on the web. I am uploading a couple of photos for those who wish to see the Engine . again thanks to all for your help. Regards Alfred. |

Hi, love that hull. was it originally power or oar? I have a sea bright skiff that is oar, but would love to power it with a little one cylinder motor. |

Hello, AFAIK the R3LY was supplied as part of a generating sets, for use in ships of lighting, the LY designation denoted Pump cooled and pumped oil, so it could run off of the ships fuel tank, where the 2nd magneto is mounted should be a oil pump. Its a interesting conversion to standard magneto, must have been issues with the Millers flywheel magneto. Would have had the same pump as this P5LY http://www.stationroadsteam.co.uk/stock%20pages/2972/pages/2972-a.htm I suspect a R3MC would have been a more fitting engine, I presume you have fitted a clutch unit to the R3LY? shame to convert it really as its quite a uncommon stationary engine, not many of the R3LYs about. Hope that helps! Cheers Steve |
