How about we post some pictures of motors that have spent time taking a well deserved nap under water. I will start it off with a nice Dunn, from the Tennessee River.

This one was pulled out of a lake in Minnesota, then the carb was cut off and sold, and I got what was left.

Here is another one pulled from a Minnesota lake. The owners would not tell me which one, they had seen a few motors underwater, and planned on bringing up a few more.

This one was salvaged out of Bear Creek Swamp in Northern Florida 2004.
Wood is cypress planks from the hull that we calculated to be about 18-19 feet long.

find any dinosaur bones. looks like it sat in a bog till you found it. Thanks everyone for posting these pictures. It sure would be exciting to find one like this.

What is the success rate of getting one of these crusty engines back to running condition? Im sure it would be a lot of work.

I think Richard restored his Gray, but I do not know if he has it running.
The engine that Bill posted looked beyond restoration. |

Several yrs ago I was in Southern Louisiana at an engine show talking To Bob Legnon about this very subject the possibilities of reconditioning old marine engs that have been submerged in the Bayous, river banks and swamps, he said that they had found several "Leverwrights" in the area over the years, Well i hadn't heard of those engs so I asked, He said they weren't of a particular mfgr or brand but after looking at the amount of deterioration "You Just Leave Her Right There" !

I don't think it is a compulsory requirement to restore these fossils from the bottom of the ocean, perhaps a consideration.
As a paleontologist's urge to bring home real dinosaur bones is not necessarily to assemble the whole frame, but as items of great interest. I have fossilized engines at home that have no hope of being any more than iron ore, but are not destined for the tip. |

The one we got came apart easily. After a little soaking oil I only Brok one ring and two bolts I think by being buried in the mud for so long mite have kept the oxygenate out but some relay bad smelling water came out of the lower end. will post pic when we get to it |
