Hi All, I just ran across this site looking for information about zincs, so I'm hoping someone here can help me out. I bought a 1984 Witness catamaran that has 13hp Nanni diesels in it, with saildrives. The zincs for the saildrives are still availble, but at a cost of $200 per set. I have access to a couple of new ones that I could make a mold from, but am having problems getting details on where I can get zinc to pour some myself. Is this possible? Can old zincs be recycled by melting them down and re-using them? Any help would be appreciated. Great site! Thanks...Jeff |

I had AN UNLClE WHO USED TO collect old used prop, rudder, & hull ZINCS AT HIS BOATYARD AND RE-CAST SOME SPECIAL ZINCS for HIMSELF BY USING AN OLD GASOLINE FIRED PLUMBER'S STOVE. I STILL HAVE THE old STOVE, melting pot ,etc. Zinc fumes are quite toxic. Many welders will not work on galvanized steel because of this. It's really not worth risking your health. |
