I have a columbia 34' sailboat with a Palmer engine that I recently purchased and dang if I can't find the oil dipstick. Me and 3 of my buddies have all looked and we are scratching our heads. I have searched this forum and haven't found any help. If anyone can point me in the right direction it would be greatly appreciated. |

If it's a Palmer PW27 sell it to me. Otherwise on the Port side there will be a round cap about 1-1/2" round and about 3-5 inches of the bottom of the motor. Unscrew it counter clockwise and pull out. Thats you dip stick.

If it is the 4 cylinder P-60 the 2" dia round bulb like thing between the carburetor and the flywheel is the dipstick and air intake for the PCV system. The oil in the crankcase is not shared with the oil in the reverse gear. To check the reverse gear oil level. Remove the six cap screws on the cover and it should be about 1 inch below the shaft at the propellor end of the reverse gear. Use SAE 30 in both reverse gear and engine crankcase. Check the reverse gear at least twice a year. |
