Hi again. Can anyone recommend a source - online or in print - for guidelines, how-tos, or even a "How We Did It" on converting a former commercial vessel to a yacht or launch? Although I am still looking at the same vessel - @ 50 foot hull, currently configured as a tug - I have decided to shelve the steam engine conversion - for now - as far too ambitious.

I am still thinking that an open launch, or perhaps an Edwardian-style "Saloon" launch would be the most appropriate with this hull type. The conversion would resemble the African Queen (with fantail instead of square stern. The finished vessel would be a bit lighter than she is now, as I would be cutting away a complex (and ugly!) superstructure that was imposed on her in the '60s; since the weight removed would be from well above the waterline this should increase her stability, but I may have to add ballast to make her manageable.

Thank you all!

Well, I found something that is pretty darned detailed. The engine is an absolute beauty, wish he had put more detail in about it. They just don't make them like this any more.

I figure the least I can do is share the link:

Enjoy!
