I have a 1961 Buhler (don't know if spelt right) 16' Turbo Craft - with 1 flat head 6 cyl engine. I've been told this is a Gray Marine engine. How can I verify if this is really a Gray Marine engine? Where is the engine identification number? What prefix should I look for? |

The Graymarine flathead 6's usually had a name plate riveted to the exhaust manifold. The engines in the 60's generally used Hercules blocks, which were also used by Chris Craft and Buchanan ( and possibly others). Alternatively, the name plate might be on the transmission cover. miro |

i too have a 1961 Buehler Turbocraft 16 footer, at least i was told that was the year. i have not found another boat with the same hull design or jet unit. my boat has a crusader marine Buehler Turbopower 200 small block chevy v-8 in it. i am very interested in seeing pictures of your boat if that is possible |

I have a 16 foot Buehler Turbocraft, I always refer to it as a Jet 32 since that is what the emblem on the dash says. It has a Chevy 327 in it now but I was told that originaly it was a Ford Interceptor. |

my 1961 turbocraft is also a jet 32. the early boats had ford interceptor motors in them, mine however, has a chevy v-8 in it and i have talked with the original owner and he states that is how he bought the boat brand new. my intake has a crusader marine engine data plate on the intake manifold stating that it is a "Buehler Turbopower 200" built for buehler turbocraft by crusader marine. it is a Model 150 serial number TP117. my boat is very original, last registered in 1970, so depending on the year of your boat, it could have come with chevy power. in the later 60's buehler used chrysler power in his boats. |

I have a 1961 Buehler Turbocraft Jet 32. You are correct, it originally came with a 256cc 145hp 4.4L Fored Interceptor (i have done much work on it) I am not a ford man myself, but man does that engine sound like the coolest thing ive ever herd in my life. Most of those early jetboats had the exhaust pipes coming out the back really really low. So the exhaust floated up and made this bubbly noise along with the kind of poping sound of the industrial engine. |

I to ,at least I was told it was a 1961,it has been a research game for me , but after seeing Eugene Killen's info. concerning the later 60 models having the Chrysler's, now I dont know what year it is, Beings mine has a for sure Chrysler slant six I.D. tag,has a Hamilton Marine Jet cable stear Model#2303 serial305-18, In the glove box is the only othe r I.D on the boat and it says Indionapolis 18 Indiana,Boat number EO260,what this implies Iam clueless as the boat was re-painted and someone didnt put the Emblems back on,so I to am kind of in the dark,any info would be appreciated fellow Buehler owner's,Luke Castle ,Boise Idaho,208-658-9739,,OR [email protected],,thanx |

Hello, eveyone , Luke here and boy could I use some help, I Bought what I was told was a 1961 Buehler,,afetr reading that they did'nt start coming out with Chrysler power till the later "60"s,I dont know now,on the engine the brass chrhysler marine tag it's a 225 slant six and on the side where the Engine number's are,,up under and close to the manifold is a silver tag riveted on that says Bore,.040 Rods.o10,mains .010 NO.15508,,Question ,Will any of this help me ID. the year,,If not does anyone know what year the Chrysler ERA came into play, and if and when it ended, thanx Luke,}} |

Luke, The Tag under the Manifold is an info tag that says.. Bore is 40 thou Oversize, Rod jounals on the shaft are 10 thou Undersize and Main bearings are also 10 thou Undersize. The NO.15508 is the Job Number. This all means that the engine has been reconditioed at some stage. I recall the 225 Slant 6 in Australian boats around 1966. Do not recall the Buehler make out here though. Cheers, Dave |

Dave_Myers, Luke here,thanx much on the info. Slowly but surely we'll Hopfully get the old girl pinned down,after a lot of work I got the Old slant 6 fired up on the Engine stand and she purrs like a kitten,(dang I'm good),,now I can attack putting a new floor in her. a fella told me that their is,,Marine grade Plywood? If so ,I'd rather go with that rather than trying to re-glass almost the entire floor,,some one cut it out from the stern to almost the steering wheel,because of broken motor mounts,I'll try and get my Daughter to show me how to use the digital camara,,so I can get some pics on here,to help mayby I.D. what Ive got a little better,thanx again Dave,Best Regards,,Luke.}} |

I have my dad's 1965 or 66 16' buehler turbopower jet boat. hull is in great cond. has the buick 160hp v-8 fireball aluminum block 4 barrel downdraft carb and with a heat exchanger. wish i could locate from gray marine some newer exhaust manifolds. also need the drop down plate diverter on the water drive to use reverse on the boat. |

I am picking up what I believe to be a 1961 Beuhler 17' this weekend. It is supposed to have a Corvette 283 in it which doesn't jive with the rest I have read about. I am really interested in sharing some pictures with someone. I would really like to see the windshield as mine does not have glass or frame. I have a1959 beuhler turbocraft with a 109 h.p 226 engine' have all paperwork ,original trailer,rebuilt carb, I put a blaster 2 coil on it, other than that it is original. FOR SALE for the right price, not under 15000, as I use it every summer, all summer, this is a unique boat,the women love it when i can turn it 180@ full throttle and not skip abeat.serious only buyers. |

I originally posted this over on unknown engines but I believe this is the better place. I found the hull number (12)on my Turbocraft on the support for the gas tank (bow mounted). The boat is a 16 ft with a single stage pump, and a chrysler 225 slant 6. I don't really know the year but the pump output, water intake system and steering are all pre 64. I think that 64 is the year that the swim step and hand holds for boarding came along. There is no back seat. The front seat has front and rear facing seats with a full bench in the front and splits in the back with no center back rest. The steering wheel is on the left side and the throttle was originally a foot pedal. We changed that out for a stick in the 60's. I'd like to get the boat running again but the engine has a crack in the block water jacket. We ran it for years that way - just hit the bilge pump now and then. I'm looking for a replacement engine. Any help in suggested sources would be much appreciate. Chris |

Bought mine from Original Owner who made the Colorado River run. Had to replace the original "Greymarine" stamped Head with an "International", otherwise all the parts are original `61`. Cable steering, Garcia Depthfinder, all chrome accessories [mirrors, horn, floodlight, tiedowns]. Trailer is Homemade with 12v.battery operated winch. Has fwd. and Rear Bench seats, also padded Engine cover to seat two more if needed. Replaced Bearfoot floorpedal with Dash mounted throttle. Added Waterproofed speaker sys and radio, plus rearmounted trolling motor stand. Still a *headturner* Roostertailing through Lake Mohave. Needs TLC, been yardboat for last few years.

She was a lot of fun to take out, and I loved the remarks from the other boatowners when I use to launch her. It`s too small for me and my 32` Tracker Pontoon could use some new fix`n with the cash i get from the Beuhler. She`s got a lot of History, especially in these parts. My domestic Tranquillity is another reason she`s going. |

what do you call your little group of turbo owners? to the guy with boat number EO260 I have boat number EO281 my title says 1961.what type of shifter do your boats use. mine is right hand drive hand throtle with a tall chrome mechanical shifter coming up on drivers left like a floor shift auto. |

hey chris like you trying to find info or history on boat.swampdaddy is my nickname and cb handle.I saw the guy with boat #EO260 was not sure of the year on his boat and my boat is #EO281 and titled as 1961.sad to say mine was a stripped out hull when i found it even jet drive was empty,I was able to track down all the drive parts including the drive shaft but motor and all related parts were a no show.i do have the engine cover and know what the seating was.I was looking at the few pics here and on fiberclassics so far all the boats i've seen have been left hand drive steering and foot pedal for gas i dont know how yours are shifted but mine is right hand drive with morse hand throttle on your right with a manual floor shifter for jet drives forward neutral reverse.can anyone post pics of thier cockpit or controls would like to compare |

Chris: No action on the Sale, but I only have it published here. You can see there are very few posts on this website. SD[swampdaddy]: Mine is a `61` with Hydrolic pump and electric switch to operate flume. I have an extra jet drive I was given with boat. Supposedly it worked back then but I never had the need to test or use it as the original one works just fine. It was originally pedal throttle but too hard to control so now it`s dash throttle...works better and easier to maintain constant speeds. The block of wood on the right was added to hold a trolling motor I had mounted there. |

chris my steering and shift are different from yours.for some reason i can not download pic here it says file is to big. Danno: That`s the *Flume* and it looks hydrolic driven...The Flume directs the waterjet for steering and speed. Lab Lover: I`m pretty FIRM on the $6,500...I won`t be making a dime at that price but I have other toys that need referbing. Chris: Trust me when I say I can launch mine in a Bath Tub....the Hull is sound and drafts about 3-5inches. Center of Gravity is amazing. That Garcia depthfinder is original [61]

I have a 1959 Buehler Turbocraft, 16 foot, 256 ford V8, Carter side draft carburator, Hydraulic gate valve. This boat was bought new by my Father in Law in 1959. I have the original owners manual and engine manual that came with the Boat. This boat is orginal except for a ford 272 distributor and a Cigarette lighter installed in the dash, and interior. The Boat is in very good shape and is water ready. Does anybody know what this boat may be worth???? |

Hello; I have a 1969 Buehler jet boat with Model 75-2C jet pump. It is a two stage pump, I am looking for the rubber Stave bearing that goes in the main housing between the two impellers the Shaft OD is 1.500" with the housing of 1.798" the bearing needs to be about .140" thick Thanks |
