I have an unknown engine and would like to know how to set it up. I have 2 buzz coils and it's wired correctly. my question is...do i put the timer handle straight back when #1 cylender is at top dead center or something else? thanks Bryon |

If the engine is reversable, set the timer in the center with the piston straight up,doesn't matter which one as long as it's on the piston that's firing. If it's not reversable, the timer travel will be limited, you will want it towards the retarded side with the piston up, this will allow more advance. If you have it too far advanced you won't be able to slow the engine enough with timing. |

A revrsable engine usually has a kill switch on the timer handle, some use a button or a pinch type disconnect, others have an insulator at each end of the swing that disconnects automatically. Reversable timers usually swing at least 70 degrees or more, allowing full advance in either direction. Single rotation timers are usually limited in travel, probably 45 degrees. None of this will stop your motor from running, especially if it's just a show motor, you won't need full advance, but if it is reversable that's an option you'll want to show off. |
