Looking for a forward/reverse transmisson for the launch that I am going to build. Does't have to be a Gray but something that will work. Thanks, Frank |

Paul, The boat is about 17 1/2 feet long, The engine I have right now is a 4.5 R but I am looking a a 5 hp Acadia also. Even a reversing prop might work. Frank |

Hi Frank, the transmission I was thinking of would be to modern for that application.Correct me if I'm wrong but, isnt the Acadia a 2-stroke and therefore reversable with spark control?Paul |

Paul, Yes it is. I could use a newer style as I don't like the idea of the old Mercury style Dock Buster (Crasher). Been there, done that and don't want to do it again. Thus the transmission. What kind of transmission do you have? I'm open to all suggestions. |

Frank, are you familiar with the Hurth HBW gearbox's?They are a mechanical gear requiring no oil cooler and virtually effortless shifting.the one I have that I'm not using is a HBW250,it came off a westerbeke60hp diesel that injested a little saltwater.Physically small in size(12Hx9Wx10L)but of more capacity than you really need.I'll have to go look, but I think the ratio is either 2.5 or 3.0,with the torque of your Acadia it might make a good combo.Hurth gears,as in the hbw series,50,100,150&250,the 50 being for the small 1lunger sailboat aux.,9 HP or so. PAUL, As I am not familiar with the Hurth HBW transmissions would it be possible to send me a few pictures of the transmission? If you could also include your phone number in the response? Thanks, Frank |

Paul, I found a better site, Googling Hurth Transmission, with pictures of all the transmissions and none of them will work. Most of those are for bolt on to the engine. Much to new and not the right configeration. Thanks for your interest but there is almost no way I can make those work. Frank |

Also you don't need any reduction on these old engines. So any reverse gear you find needs to be 1 to 1 in forward. However most of these old reverse gears have a small reduction in reverse due to the planetary gears. |
